Day 1
The lush hilly greenery provides the perfect backdrop for relaxing on Castiglioncello’s long sandy beaches, where you can also hire small boats or water bikes to take out to sea. The promenade is scattered with restaurants, pizzerias and bars too, giving plenty of nighttime eating and entertainment options.
Day 2
Nearby Livorno is the main port in Tuscany, and is only 12 NM north of Castiglioncello, making it a great destination for a day trip. The port city is located on the Tyrrhenian Sea, and has a mixture of modern and ancient architecture, as well as a number of charming canals and bridges weaving through the town. Scala di Gorgona, the northernmost island in the Tuscan Archipelago, is directly west of the coast of Livorno, and is accessible exclusively via ferry tours, giving you the chance to explore isolated Italian wildlife.
Day 3
Sailing 9 NM north of Livorno you reach the Pisa marina. Pisa has a few small stretches of beach, and towards the south of the marina the beach becomes more of a tourist/ seaside resort where it’s possible to moor your yacht along the Arno River and enjoy a drink on the seafront. Pisa’s real attraction lies in the town, where famous sites such as the Leaning Tower and the Piazza del Duomo are only a 15-20 minute bus ride away from the coast.
Day 4
From Pisa railway station you can travel direct to the Parco di Migliarino – the regional park that covers the coast from Livorno to Viareggo. The park contains a mixture of protected wildlife in its hills, and the Massaciuccoli Lake and the Roman villa and spa ruins are worthwhile visits.
Day 5
Leaving Pisa and sailing 20 NM past the Parco di Migliarino you will reach the Marina di Pietrasanta, considered one of the best beaches in Italy for its advanced facilities and stretches of golden sand and crystal clear waters. This is a perfect spot for sunbathing, swimming or admiring the sea views. The town of Pietrasanta has a notable art culture, as well as a grand selection of highly rated restaurants and pizzerias.
Day 6
The final recommended stop is La Spezia, 25 NM north of Marina di Pietrasanta. The provincial town has a large harbour and a number of local restaurants and cafés selling regional wines and freshly caught fish.
