  4. 7-day Sailing Itinerary in the Dodecanese Islands

Embarking on a yacht rental in Greece unlocks a world of discovery, especially when navigating the enchanting Dodecanese Islands. This archipelago, with its rich history, picturesque villages, and crystal-clear waters, offers an idyllic setting for a sailing adventure. Boat hire in Greece provides the flexibility to explore these islands at your own pace, uncovering hidden gems and enjoying unique experiences that structured tours often miss.

Where are the Dodecanese Islands located?

The Dodecanese Islands are located in the southeastern Aegean Sea, near the coast of Turkey. They consist of 12 major islands and numerous smaller ones, with the largest and most well-known island being Rhodes. They are situated between the Cyclades to the northwest and the island of Crete to the south.

What is the best time of year to sail the Dodecanese Islands?

The best time to sail is during the summer months, from May to October when the weather is warm and the winds are favourable. July and August are the peak months, but sailing in the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October) can offer more pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds.

What qualifications are required to sail in Greece?

For a bareboat rental in Greece, the skipper must hold an official sailing license recognized by Greek authorities. This can be an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) or a national equivalent from your home country (e.g., RYA Day Skipper, ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising).

Each charter company have its specific requirements and policies, so it’s essential to check with the company you are booking through. Our travel consultants can provide detailed information on their requirements.

Alternatively, on Sailogy you can opt for a sailboat with skipper Greece or a catamaran with skipper Greece, and live a holiday of total relaxation without having to deal with navigation.
