  4. Split to Dubrovnik: 7-day boat itinerary

Croatia is one of Sailogy's top destinations for 2022. Most of our clients choose a Croatian city to start their dreamy sailing vacation, and we couldn't agree more: Croatia is, in fact, a fantastic region full of beauty and attractions that can satisfy any type of tourist. Great if you want to combine sightseeing and sea during your vacation!

The particular geography of this country makes it perfect for a summer holiday: Croatia stretches for more than 1,000 miles along the coasts of most of the Eastern European territory and overlooks the Adriatic Sea. It counts more than 1,000 islands and islets, so the itineraries to choose from are plenty, with locations that can be on the mainland or on the islands.

Today we discover the beautiful Dalmatia, the southern region that includes most of the coastlines and islands of the country, in an amazing 7-day boat itinerary from Split to Dubrovnik and back, stopping in two of the most fascinating and famous cities in the whole of Croatia. If you visit these places, don't forget to check the best beach suggestions at the end of each paragraph!

Day 1 - Split

We start our itinerary in Split, one of the most beautiful as well as the biggest city in Croatia. Split enchants every tourist with its historical center, now declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO: here is where the emperor Diocletian decided to build the palace he spent his last years in, which is one of the main archeological sites of the whole region. A visit to the city is a must before embarking on our journey! Right in and around the city can be found many beautiful beaches, from fine sand to pebble and concrete bathing areas.

Best beach in Split

- Kasjuni Beach: located on the southern side of Marjan Forest Park, it is one of the absolute highlights among the beaches of Split. Easy to reach by boat, it has turquoise waters and a pebble beach.

.

Day 2 - Hvar

We start our day on the beautiful island of Hvar, where the sea is just so magical and clear mostly thanks to the absence of sandy beaches that make the water murky. Hvar's mainland is quite wild so it's almost easier to reach coves and beaches by boat, but we strongly suggest stopping in the main city and enjoying a walk between the historical buildings up to the fortress, where you can witness a beautiful view. There are so many beautiful beaches on this island, and having a private boat allows you to explore them all and find your perfect spot.

Best beach in Hvar

Lučišća Beach, Sv. Nedilja: located on the southwest coast of the island, this beach is a real paradise. It is quite difficult to reach from the land, which means it might get less crowded than the others. You will be amazed by the beauty of this place, with crystal clear waters that get deep very fast and an amazing surrounding scenario. From the boat, it just gets better!

.

Day 3 - Korčula

Korcula island is definitely one of the highlights of the country. Also known as the greenest island in Croatia, it includes dreamy beaches, amazing attractions, and a lot of things to visit. The beautiful medieval town of Korcula is definitely worth a visit: start the tour from the beautiful stairs at the old city gates and proceed to admire the numerous historical buildings. Outside the city, it is possible to visit the archeological sites located in caves, such as Vela Spilja Cave, which dates back to 3,200 BC.

Best beach in Korčula

Bačva Beach: this little corner of paradise is located on the southeast side of the island and it's a beautifully hidden bay with turquoise waters and green surroundings. Perfect to visit by boat!

.

Day 4 - Mljet

If you're not a fan of endless crowds, especially during the high season, then Mljet will be an absolute dash of fresh air for you! This island is one of the most beautiful in the region and is full of natural wonders. The entire northern east part is covered by the National Park, 5,300 hectares of land filled with pinewoods and mongooses: the most famous spot here is where the Small and Big Lake are located. The park is open every day and the entrance costs about 70 Kunas during the low season, and 125 Kunas during the high season.

Best beach in Mljet

- Prožurska Luka: this small bay with a related village is an absolute gem, and it's perfect for stopping with the boat.

.

Day 5 - Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is one of the biggest cities in Croatia, as well as one of the most important locations in the whole Adriatic Sea. The city is surrounded by some imposing walls, which qualified it for the UNESCO listing. Inside the city, there are many historical places to visit, such as St. John's Fortress, the cathedral, the Franciscan monastery, and the Sponza Palace. If you're a fan of Games of Thrones, you will recognize most of these places, as they used Dubrovnik as the main filming location for the fictional city King's Landing.

Best beach in Dubrovnik

Pasjača Beach: this beach used to be a local secret, but recently won best beach in Europe. It's surrounded by cliffs which create a stunning location. Definitely worth a visit by boat!

.

Day 6 - Lastovo

Lastovo Island is the perfect destination for those who wish to experience something different from the usual Croatian locations, and a priority for those who are in search of absolute peace. The unspoiled nature will leave you speechless, with only one hotel located on the whole island: you can imagine how private and isolated this paradise is! On Lastovo are located some villas, now private farming units, that remind us of the Roman past of the island. There are many plantations of olive trees as well as vineyards, which makes it mandatory to try the exquisite olive oil and wines produced here.

Best beach in Lastovo

- Lucica Beach: is a beautiful bay located in front of a fishing village, with crystal clear waters surrounded by a steep cliff and evergreen vegetation.

Day 7 - Vis

Vis island is the furthest Croatian island from the mainland. In the past, it was ruled by many different populations, such as Greeks, Romans, Venetians, Austrians, and Italians, which can be seen in the multicultural history that characterized the town, and it was opened to tourists only in 1991. The best way to visit this island is, of course, by boat: the coasts of Vis are full of stunning caves and enchanting bays with blue waters and play of lights that will make everyone fall in love.

Best beach in Vis

- Cave tour: we suggest sailing around the island to discover the many caves scattered on the coast. The most spectacular one is definitely the Blue Cave, the most famous attraction on the island, illuminated in shades of bright blue. The Green Cave is another beautiful cave worth a visit!
